Matilda Sword Distillers is a Hamilton craft gin brand led by founder and CEO Matteo Merla and his wife and business partner, Amy. The gin project first took shape in Hamburg, Germany, and became a company after Matteo moved to Canada in 2020. The name honours Matilda, the Princess of Canossa, remembered for her strength and warrior spirit, which is where the motto "We Are All Warriors" comes from. The gins are dreamt up at their downtown Hamilton headquarters and distilled with a partner distillery in Ayr, Ontario. There are four recipes: London Dry, Flower Feeling (a rose gin), Oxigin Black and Oxigin Gold, all sold in 750 ml bottles at 40% alcohol.
